What you'll need to apply

We vet every engineer. This protects you and the customers you'll work with.

Gas Safe / NICEIC / Trade Qual
Valid certification for your primary trade. Must be current and verifiable.
Public Liability Insurance
Minimum £1M PLI required. We'll verify directly with your insurer.
UTR Number
You'll be self-employed. A valid 10-digit UTR for self-assessment is required.
Clean DBS Check
Standard DBS. We'll run one if you don't have a recent one (within 3 years).
Smartphone
You'll receive and manage jobs via the FixMate engineer app (mobile web).
Own Van & Tools
You supply your own transport and trade tools. We supply the jobs.

FAQ

The questions you actually have

Jobs are matched automatically by proximity, trade, and dispatch score. When a customer books, the closest available engineer with the right trade and a qualifying score gets the offer first. You have a short window to accept or decline — if you decline, it moves to the next engineer. There is no first-come-first-served race.
You don't deal with payment — FixMate pays you on a fixed schedule regardless. Customers pay FixMate upfront when they book. You never handle money or chase invoices. If there's a chargeback or dispute, that's FixMate's problem to resolve — your payout is not affected.
Yes. FixMate is non-exclusive. Run it alongside Checkatrade, your own clients, another platform — whatever works for you. You control your availability hours. When you're offline on FixMate, no jobs are sent to you.
Most engineers get through vetting in 3–5 working days, assuming documents are ready. Once approved, you're live and receiving jobs immediately. Active Founding 50 engineers typically hit their first £200 within 48 hours of going live.
Currently: plumbing, electrical, gas & heating (Gas Safe), roofing, handyman, locksmith, and appliance repair. We're expanding trade coverage as we grow. If yours isn't listed, apply anyway — we'll let you know when your trade goes live in your area.
